Pentafluorobenzenesulfonyl bromide was synthesized by the reaction of pentafluorophenylmagnesium chloride with sulphur dioxide followed by bromine oxidation. The sulfonyl bromide reacted with polyfluorophenoxide to form polyfluorophenyl pentafluorobenzenesulfonates. Photolysis of pentafluorobenzenesulfonyl bromide gave bis(pentafluorobenzene)sulfone and decafluorodiphenyl.
