Synthesis and Electroluminescent Property of Poly(phenylenevinylene) with Asymmetrical Alkoxyl Substituents

Poly(2-methoxy-5-dodecyloxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene)(PMDPV) was prepared via dehydrochlorination process, induced by potassium tert-butoxide in tetrahydrofuran. It showed a better solubility and film forming property than poly(2,5-didodecyloxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene). The peak wavelength value of EL cell based on PMDPV was 605 nm. The structure of the polymer was characterized by IR, UV-Vis, ¹H NMR, TGA and GPC.
