Modification of Poly(2, 6-dimethyl-1, 4-phenylene Oxide) with Nitro or Amino Functional Groups

The chemical modification of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide)(PPO) has been carried out by incorporating nitro or amino groups in the PPO backbone. The obtained maximum monosubstitution value is 95% or 65% respectively. The effects of reaction conditions on the functional group contents in PPO were discussed. The modified PPO obtained was characterized by FT-IR、¹H NMR spectroscopy, nitrogen analysis, solubility test and X-ray diffraction study.
