Preparation and Thermal Properties of Transparent PMMA/SiO₂ Hybrid Bulk Materials

Silicon dioxide sol was synthesized from inorganic salt precursor,tetraethylorthosilioate by hydro-lysis and condensation in water. The thermal stabilities and micro-structure of PMMA/SiO₂ hybrid materials were characterized with TEM,DSC and TG. The studies reveal that the diameter of the particles was about 100 nm. The glass transition temperature of the PMMA/SiO₂ hybrid materials disappeared when ω(SiO₂) was more than 20%,and the thermal decomposition temperature increased by 110 ℃. The forming of homogeneous inter-penetrated network between the organic phase and the inorganic phase demonstrated the miscibility of the two species had been improved.
