SYNTHESIS OF 1,2-POLYBUTADIENE WITH WCl₄(OR)₂-Al(i-Bu)₃ CATALYST SYSTEM

This paper discusses the exchange reaction between WCl₆ and four alcohols:n-C₄H₉OH, n-C₅H₁₁)OH, t-C₇H₁₅OH and n-C₁₀H₂₁OH. The results show that the products of the reaction may be represented as WCl₄(OR)₂, The content of 1,2-unit in polymer prepared with WCl₄(OR)₂-Al(i-Bu)₃ catalyst in hydrogenated gasoline is found to be about 80% and the catalyst system with R=n-C₁₀H₂₁O gives the highest activity. The molecular weight distribution is independent of the polymerization conditions used.
