Hydrogenation Activities of Palladium Catalysts Supported on Guanidoethyl-, Aminoethyl-and N, N-Dicyanoethylaminoethyl-Zirconium Phosphonate

Three amorphous zirconium mixed phosphate phosphonate supports Zr(HPO₄)_2-x· (O₃P(CH₂)₂NRR¹)_x·H₂O (R=H or (CH₂)₂CN;R¹=H,-C(=NH)NH₂ or (CH₂)₂CN) and palladium catalysts supported on them were prepared from 2-guanidoethylphosphonic acid, 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid, and N, N-(biscyanoethyl) aminoethylphosphonic acid with zirconium oxychloride and phosphoric acid, respectively. All the supports with their palladium catalysts have been characterized by IR, TG, DTA and XPS measurements. Factors influencing the hydrogenation activities under atmospheric pressure over the catalysts have been examined in comparison with Pd/C catalyst. The supported catalysts showed very high hydrogenation activity and selectivity for some vinyl compounds and nitrobenzene. They can be used repeatedly.
