A superabsorbent polymer good resistant to saline solution was prepared by solution polymerization of acrylic acid(AA) using alumina as a crosslinking agent. The influences of amount of crosslinking agent, initiator, neutralization degree of acrylic acid, molar ratio of NH₃ to(NH₃+NaOH), polymerization time, temperature on water absorbency(WA) in 0.9% NaCl aqueous solution were investigated. The optimum reaction conditions were 0.34% molar fraction of crosslinking agent, 0.0013% molar fraction of initiator, 77% neutralization degree, polymerization at 50℃ and 6h. Water absorbency in distilled water and in aqueous 0.9% NaCl solution in 30 min was about 2 225g/g and 100g/g, respectively.
