A bifunctional fluorescent probe 1, 1'-(5, 5'-(6, 6'-dihydroxy-5, 5'-dimethoxybiphenyl-3, 3'-diyl)bis(3-(2-hydroxy-phenyl)-1H-pyrazole-5, 1(4H, 5H)-diyl))diethanone (C1) based on bispyrazoline was designed and synthesized. The structure of C1 was confirmed by ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, MS and elemental analysis. The spectroscopic behavior toward metal ions has been investigated by the absorption and fluorescence methods. It exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity for detecting Cu²⁺ and Zn²⁺ over other commonly coexistent metal ions in 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazine ethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) buffer solution[V(MeOH):V(H₂O)=1:1, 20 mol·L^-1, pH=7.4] and it has the capability to differentiate target ions with different flu-orescence.
