Functional Classification of Phospholipase A₂ Family

The affinity fingerprint method was used to functionally classify proteins based on the binding data matrix produced by multiple-docking. The method has been applied to the classification of phospholipase A₂ enzymes. Though many of the classifications are similar to those from sequence alignment, the human cPLA₂ was successfully grouped with bee PLA₂ based on the binding site similarity, which can not be handled by sequence alignment due to cPLA₂′s low homology with other PLA₂s.
