Synthesis and Biological Activity of 2,2-Disubstituted 5-Benzal(fural) Cyclopentanones

Eighteen substituted cyclopentanones containing cyclopentenyl were synthesized. Their chemical structures were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR and ¹H NMR measurements. The anticancer activities of the compounds have been examined. Compounds 2l, 2e and 2r were found to be active against KB, HCT, A2780, and A549 tumors in vitro. Compounds 2b and 2d showed activity only against HCT tumor. Compound 2e showed some fungistatic activity against plant pathogens in vitro.
