Coordination of Chitosan with Zn(Ⅱ)and IR spectra

A series of chitosan-Zn(Ⅱ)complexes with n (chitosan):n(Zn(Ⅱ))=1:0.05~1:1.0 were synthesized in aqueous acidic solution. The results indicated that the Zn(Ⅱ) content of the complexes prepared in dilute formic acid solution was higher than in other acid solutions: acetic, propionic, benzoic and hydrochloric acids.IR spectrum results showed that Zn(Ⅱ)are coordinated to-NH₂,-NHCO-and-OH groups of chitosan molecnle and the final complexes have no definite chemical composition.
