Polyphenyl phosphates(PPP) were synthesized by solution polycondensation of phenylphosphate dichloride with biphenol in the presence of pyridine at room temperature.The optimum molar ratio for synthesis was n(-OH);n(-Cl);n(Py)=1.4:1.0:2.4.The structures of PPPs were confirmed by IR and ¹HMR.The PPPs with DP of 43~45 possessed good flame retardance(LOI 25.5).The flame retardant property of PPP towards epoxide resin E-44 has been discussed in relation to the DP of the polymers.
