A Schiff base derived from 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone(PMBP) with p-aminodimethyl aniline and its complexes with Cu(Ⅱ), Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV and ¹H NMR techniques. The ligand and the complexes particurally the Co(Ⅱ) complex have antibacterial activities against Escherichia cocli and Staphylococcus aureus.
