The complexes of [Zn(TBTA)(BPP)]n (1) and [Cd(TBTA)(BPP)2(H2O)2]n (2) based on 2,3,5,6-tetrabromo-terephthalic acid (H2TBTA) and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (BPP) have been constructed in CH3OH/H2O solution at room temperature. The structures and properties were characterized by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, IR spectra and thermogravimetric analyses. The results indicate the complex 1 is two dimension (2D) wave-like layer network, and the complex 2 is one dimension (1D) chain structure, and the carboxyl groups in H2TBTA ligands coordinate with metal ions in monodentate mode, and the H-bonding interactions contribute to the stabilities of the structures of the complexes.
