A complex Sm2(1-npac)6(dmpy)2·(H2O)3(1), (1-npac=1-naphthaleneacetate, dmpy=5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGA, powder X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural determination reveals that the samarium ions are bridged by two bidentate and two terdentate carboxylato groups to give centrosymmetric dimers with Sm…Sm separation of 0.3925(2) nm, which is further extended to a 3D supramolecular structure by hydrogen bonds, C-H…π and π…π stacking interactions. Solid-state 1 emits the intensive orange luminescence of Sm3+ ion with fluorescence lifetime of 0.87 μs (598 nm) at room temperature. CCDC: 898378.
