Core-shell-structured MoO_x/C microspheres were prepared through the calcination of a MoO₃/resin precursor obtained by a hydrothermal method. Upon calcination, carbonized resin reduced hexagonal MoO₃ into monoclinic MoO₂. A small amount of monoclinic MoO₂ was further oxidized to orthorhombic MoO₃, forming core-shell MoO_x/C microspheres. The hierarchical MoO_x/C microspheres showed excellent electrochemical lithium storage performance when used as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries. High reversible capacities of 640.6 mAh· g^-1 was maintained at 100 mA·g^-1 after 100 cycles, demonstrating the high reversible capacity and excellent cycle performance of the MoO_x/C microspheres for lithium storage.
