Nano-structure flake-like CeO₂ crystals with an average size of 4.94 μm×0.92 μm (length and width) and the thickness of 0.04~0.08 μm were prepared by simply calcining cerium carbonate precursors (CCPs) at 500℃ for 4 h, in which the flake-like CCPs were firstly prepared by stirring CeCl₃ aqueous solution with CO₂-storage material (CO₂SM) for 0.5 h at room temperature. Interesting, the CO₂SM could provide CO₃^2- and act as dispersant and structure-directing agent for the preparation of flake-like CCPs. In the process, the effect of three factors, including CO₂SM dosage, Ce³⁺ concentration and stirring time, on the morphology and size of CCPs were systemically studied, and the optimum preparation conditions of flake-like CCPs were confirmed at 0.1 g CO₂SM with 50 mL 0.03 mol·L^-1 Ce³⁺ aqueous solution at 1 000 r·min^-1 for 0.5 h at room temperature. After calcining CCPs, the as-prepared flake-like CeO₂ crystals presented the CO₂ adsorption amount of 0.554 mmol·g^-1 at room temperature.
