Two new lanthanide complexes based on Schiff base ligand, namely[Dy(salen)₂]₃·3C₂H₉N₂·2CH₃OH (1) and[Ho(salen)₂]₃·3C₂H₉N₂·1.5CH₃OH (2), (H₂salen=N, N'-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)ethylene-1, 2-diamine), have been synthesized and characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffractions reveal that 1 and 2 crystallize in the same monoclinic space group C2, and have similar coordination environment around the metallic centers. Single molecule magnets (SMMs) behaviors have been observed in 1 and 2 with/without an applied magnetic field.
