Photocatalytic Mechanism of TiO₂/schorl Composite by Different Hydrothermal Conditions

The TiO₂/schorl(3%) were prepared by a hydrothermal method in order to solve the defects easy agglo-meration and wide band gap of TiO₂. The influences of the hydrothermal time (2~10 h) and the hydrothermal temperature (120~200℃) on photocatalytic activity of TiO₂/schorl(3%) were studied. It was found that the degra-dation efficiency to rhodamine B improved from 60% (TiO₂) to 99.4% by composited with schorl. The schorl shows spontaneous polarization electric field, which can effectively reduce the recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes of TiO₂. The sample TiO₂/schorl(3%) synthesized at 160℃ for 4 h shows the highest photo-catalytic performance. These results indicate that the material with spontaneous polarization can effectively improve the photocatalytic properties of TiO₂.
