Abstract:
Photopromoted carbonylation of alkyl halides with carbon monoxide can be carried outunder ambient conditions with non-precious transition metal complexes (such as cobalt complexes) catalysts. Our preliminary work showed that alkyl halides can be transformed into alkene andalkane directly under irradiation, but the esters can not be transformed. It is assumed that thecarbonylation of alkyl halides may be proceeded in two ways.

Abstract:
Hydrogen production at room temperature from liquid methanol has been conductedusing corona discharge. The content of water in methanol solution has a significant effect on thisproduction. When water concentration increases from 1.0% to 16.7%, the methanol conversionrate changes from 0.196 to 0.284 mol/h. An important finding in this investigation is theformation of ethylene glycol as a major by-product. The yield of ethylene glycol is ranged from0.0045 to 0.0075 mol/h based on the water content.

2003, 14(6): 649-652
[Abstract](458) [FullText HTML] [PDF 1281KB](0)
Abstract:
Heterogenous photocatalyzed reduction of aqueous Na2CO3 has been carried out byusing nano SrFeO3 semiconductor powders. Formic acid, formaldehyde and methyl alcoholwere identified as photoproducts, and were measured spectrophotometrically. The effect of thevariation of different parameters such as sodium carbonate concentration, amount of photocatalystand different light sources on the yield of photoproducts was also investigated. It shows thatnano SrFeO3 has photocatalytic activity. Irradiation leads to the production of electrons in theconduction band of the SrFeO3 semiconductor. It is likely that the photoproduced electronsreduce CO32- initially to HCOO-, and then to HCHO and CH3OH.

In addition, compared with some geminisurfactants containing phenylene, xylylene and stilbenyl as spacer, this new kind of surfactants hasgood solubility in water at room temperature because of containing more hydrophilic groups oratoms in molecules.
